Confessions: A Letter to the Broken Engineer

Remember you are not alone.

Hey,

Look at me, I need to tell you something. Please listen.

I know you’re in the dark right now, and I know you what you’re thinking.

Put that knife down. Don’t even think about the feeling of the cold blade moving against your supple skin. It’s not worth it.

Failing is not the end. You can try it one more time.

I know you were doing your best.

Life is just unfair sometimes—so we need to stick together.

Listen.

Everyone is worried about you. You just might not have noticed because you were too busy getting ready for a new adventure. Getting busy planning your freedom. But believe me when I say that the kind of freedom you want isn’t colorful and happy. It will be empty, grey and lifeless.

Believe me as well when I say I understand how you feel. The feeling of being in a crowd of people moving forward and you try to keep up with them, but you can’t. Try as hard as you can, but you can’t keep up, and you suddenly stumble—and drown in the grey crowd of fast-paced people living their lives as if your existence isn’t important. I’ve been there.

I’ve been told once that though the light is unkind, the darkness is even more unkind. Don’t listen to it, fight it.

Open your eyes and look closer at the grey crowd of people—look harder. You’ll see me pushing against the crowd reaching out a helping hand to you. Take my hand, and I’ll stay with you until you can stand on your own again. You’re not alone.
