An Entirely Transparent Swimming Pool Will Be Built in London and It’s 35 Meters High From the Ground

It is suspended 10 storeys up!

If you’re looking for an entirely transparent swimming pool at the top of a building with a fantastic view, you should take a unit in this apartment in London – at the top, it has a glass-encased outdoor swimming pool that is suspended 10 storeys up at about 35 meters high from the ground.

The transparent “sky pool” provides a bridge between two apartment blocks in the Embassy Gardens, located at Nine Elms which is the riverside district near the Battersea power station.

Considered as a world first, the pool is 90 feet long, 19 feet wide and 10 feet deep, with water depth of about 4 feet. It is made of glass 8 inches thick, making it appear that it is a floating aquarium.

The sky pool is designed by Arup Associates, with inputs from aquarium designers Reynolds.

“My vision for the Sky Pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering,” said Sean Mulryan, chairman and founder of developer Ballymore.

“I wanted to do something that had never been done before. The Sky Pool’s transparent structure is the result of significant advancements in technologies over the last decade. The experience of the pool will be truly unique; it will feel like floating through the air in central London.”

Indeed, as the sky pool will sit at the top of building with a dramatic view of the Palace of Westminster and the London Eye. The sky deck also offers a summer bar, sun loungers, a spa, and orangery.

“We set out to create places and spaces that are more than just bricks and mortar,” said Mulryan. “The pool is testimony to this philosophy and gives the development a unique character.”

Only residents of the building can use the pool. An apartment unit costs about £602,000, which will be available by 2018.
