Scientists Create Liquid Light To Make Electronics Smaller

Researchers are coming up with a way to make smaller electronics more powerful

A study from the University of Cambridge and some researchers from Greece and Mexico shows different ways on packing more power and speed into the tiniest particles. They have found a way to combine electricity and light with the use of a mini electro-optical switch which generates and controls liquid light – akin to what you see inside glow sticks.

They have created a particle known as a polariton, which cuts the speed in which electricity is converted into light, enabling for a faster data transmission which can help in the development of smaller and more compact electronics. As of the moment, a mixture of electricity and fiber optics is used to transmit data. Information processing is accomplished with the use of electrical charges on semiconductor chips while a different line transmits this information using optical cables. The study revolves around making this process more efficient and more powerful.
