The Greatest Drag Race in the World (part 2)

This installment of Motor Trend’s Worlds Greatest Drag Race, subjects 1.2 million dollars worth of metal to the standing quarter mile. Including the seriously insane Lambo Aventador, McLaren MP4-12c, and the cheekily humble Subaru BRZ. Eyes were, of course, on the previous winner, the blistering, giant crushing, Nissan GTR.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaS7n6qKQe4]Greatest Drag Race part 2 (Source: Motortrend)The field of nine also included, the Ford Shelby GT500, Jaguar XKR-S, Porsche 911 Carrera S, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series, and the Chevrolet Camaro. That’s some serious metal compared to the last test, which had me asking. What type of person would avert their eyes away from this month’s issue of Monocle Magazine?Well, you would have to be seriously well heeled indeed. But you don’t need to step on the brakes any longer, let’s get right to it.Greatest Drag Race part 2 (Source: Motortrend)Let’s say, you were a distributor of Siberian crude, or “Colombian agricultural produce”, and you required a discreet, fast means to deposit your income into a tax haven. Which one of these would be your pick? With 691 horsepower and all wheel drive traction, it’s no surprise the Aventador took line honors, at a blinding 10.8 seconds. But it can be heard through a vacuum and seen from other galaxies so surely it couldn’t be a contender? How about the MP4-12C? To the uninitiated it sounds like a model of coffee percolator with a McLaren badge. What about our previous winner? The GTR, which put in a very respectable third. Not bad considering it’s nearly three hundred thousand dollars cheaper than its competitors in the top three. Of course there is the Porsche, Jaguar, AMG Merc, Shelby and Camaro. But do you really think, a high end consumer, would be seen in a car their sales manager, lawyer or accountant would drive?Greatest Drag Race part 2 (Source: Motortrend)So despite the outright result, I believe the discreet wolf in sheep’s clothing, named after a coffee percolator, the McLaren MP4-12C wins this drag race. Oh and what of the BRZ? Well, with just 200bhp on tap, a tail-happy rear end and a pauper’s price tag? That’s clearly a transport for law enforcementGreatest Drag Race part 2 (Source: Motortrend)
