Aldar Headquarters, Middle East

This British-based privately owned, internationally focused engineering enterprise has done remarkable projects such as the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Park in London and the Aldar Headquarters, the first spherical building in the Middle East. Laing O’Rourke stretches its operations internationally and has grown a network in Europe, the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and Asia.

9. Royal BAM Group

Museum of the Future, Dubai

Starting as a business building coffins and repairing windmills in 1869, this Dutch-based enterprise grew to become one of the most respected construction companies in the world. Bataafsche Aanneming Maatschappij or BAM stands for Batavian Construction Company for Construction and Concrete Projects and is now turning 150 years old. One of their noteworthy projects is the Museum of the Future in Dubai, UAE.

8. Kiewit

Olivenhain Pump Station, San Diego CA

The unique thing about this North American company is that it is employee-owned which means that all construction projects are staffed by its one or more owners. Kiewit ranked 5th on Engineering News-Record’s list of Top 400 Contractors in 2018. They are the contractors of the $24 million Olivenhain Pump Station in San Diego, California.

7. Bouygues Construction

Yhnova 3D-printed House, France

This French construction company is the team behind the Yhnova, the first house 3D-printed house in France. Today, it has more than 47,000 employees in different continents and has €11.7 billion generated sales in 2017. This sustainable construction leader started in 1952 by an engineering graduate Francis Bouygues. Bouygues Construction is eyeing to extend its enterprise in Asia.

Olympic Aquatics Centre, London

With more than a century of experience, Balfour Beatty has carved its name as one of the world’s construction leaders. This company is based in the UK and has operations in the US, Ireland, and the Far East. With more than 40,000 employees, their business offers infrastructure investments, construction, and support services. Founded by George Balfour and Andrew Beatty, this company has turned concepts into landmarks such as the Olympic Aquatics Centre in London and The Royal Museum.

5. Skanska

Sweden’s longest rail tunnel

Another name that will always be present in the world’s construction leaders list is the Swedish multinational construction and development company Skanska. Founded in 1887, this company focuses on the Nordic Region, Europe, and the USA with a core emphasis on sustainability. Sweden’s longest rail tunnel, which enables trains to travel at full speed and with a maximum cargo load, is one of the remarkable projects of Skanska.

4. Hochtief

Prague State Opera

This German company considers construction as their core competence which paved them to be included in the world’s construction leaders. They were the trusted contractor behind the refurbishment of the Prague State Opera which requires expert craftsmanship because of its delicate historical features. Hoctief also ranked 2nd in the in the annual ENR “Top 250 International Contractors” ranking.

Bechtel is one of the engineering companies that will probably never lose its place in the world’s construction leaders. More than its expertise in construction, this company also offers equal opportunities to women and extends its help to young women who are interested in the said industry. Considered as the largest US contractor, this construction company has given life to history’s biggest projects from the Hoover Dam back in 1936 up to the Chernobyl Shelter and Confinement in Ukraine.

2. Grupo ACS

LGV Perpignan–Figueres High-Speed Railway

Grupo ACS (Actividades de Construcción y Servicios) is a Spanish company that specializes in civil and engineering construction. It has built multiple branches across Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and Asia, acquiring €34.06 billion revenue in 2016. From a group that bought a company with financial difficulties, the company has boomed into one of the best in the industry with notable projects such as the LGV Perpignan–Figueres High-Speed railway in 2009.

1. Vinci

New Coastal Road from Saint-Denis to La Grande Chaloupe, France

This French privately-owned company on its 115 years in the industry has proven much to take the crown in the world’s construction leaders. Last year, it acquired €40.25 billion in revenue. With over a hundred companies around the world, Vinci is always one of the finest choices in the construction projects. They currently banner the New Coastal Road along the coastline from Saint-Denis to La Grande Chaloupe. Other high-profile infrastructures build under its name are the Stade de France, France’s National Stadium and the Wheatstone Liquefied Natural Gas Project in Australia.
