UK Will Say Goodbye To The Yellow Hard Hat

It looks like there will be a change of color codes in the construction business this 2017. Forget the yellow hard hat! The construction consortium, BuildUK, wants the UK to change the colors people will be using in construction sites. This will easily help everyone especially the outsiders know who’s in charge and who’s not.

The company wants this new system to be implemented this January in all construction sites. These helmets must meet the British Standard BS EN 397. So, in case you were wondering who’s who in the area, here are the following new hard hat colors:

Black: Supervisor

Orange: Slinger/Signaler

White: Site Manager, competent operative, vehicle marshall

Blue: Visitors

You may also see helmet stickers being worn by others in the construction area. These stickers represent two types of roles for safety. In case you see a green sticker, it’s the first aider sticker for the person in-charge of rushing to people in an accident. The red sticker signifies the fire marshal sticker for the people in-charge of putting out the fire.

BuildUK was established last 2015 by the efforts of the National Specialist Contractors’ Council and UK Contractors Group. This new system has already been adopted by the England’s national transportation agency, the Highways England.
