How Conventional Technologies Can Become Weapons

In today’s modern world, society has created a frightening array of deadly weapons. Governments and military institutions have created weapons of mass destruction such as cruise missiles and nuclear bombs. Furthermore, there is a mind-boggling array of different guns – automatic rifles, snipers, and machine guns, for example.

Aside from conventional weapons, unfortunately, many conventional technologies can be used as a weapon too. There have been many instances in the news where injuries or fatalities have occurred from conventional items used as weapons.

The item’s original use has been perverted – instead of being used for its original intention, it has been used to inflict damage. This is why such things as an argumentative essay on gun control are so valuable – so that we can learn about all different types of weapons. In this article, we look at specific conventional items that have been used as types of weapons – from kitchen utensils to the internet.

Practically anything could be used as a weapon

Trying to define this subject is difficult. Practically any object could serve as a weapon. Even a child’s toy! Heavy objects, for example, could be used for brute force attacks. Furthermore, any sharp object could potentially be used in the same way as a knife or spear. We have to, therefore, look past conventional weapons and consider everyday objects too.

Examples of everyday objects and technologies used as weapons

Stationary

When you sit at your office desk, what can you see? Maybe a pen, paper, stapler, hole punch, or a ruler, for example? These are common items that we use for work and studies. These are not items a person would immediately associate as dangerous! Every one of those items, (except paper), could be used as a type of weapons. A pen, for example, could be used to stab someone. Furthermore, a hole punch could be used as a club. The office can be a deadly place, especially with such potentially dangerous items!

Glass

As you can see from the above list, dangerous items come in many forms. When reading up on the 2nd amendment in the US constitution, you would not think of glass as a type of arm? Glass can indeed be extremely dangerous. A glass bottle itself can cause huge damage if thrown as a projectile or club. Furthermore, a broken glass bottle or shard of glass has sharp edges and can cause horrific cuts.

Finally, we have furniture. Heavy, furniture such as a sofa or bed couldn’t really be wielded as a weapon. But smaller items such as chairs, tables, and ornaments can be. You may have watched a typical WWE wrestling match; how often do they pick up chairs as weapons? Any type of furniture small enough to pick up could be thrown as a projectile.

Hopefully, you now have a greater appreciation for an article against gun control essay, and the importance of understanding different types of weapons. Practically any conventional object can be used as a weapon – this is why extra care must be given when using everyday items. It is important to understand how to use objects properly, and who to let use them to avoid potentially dangerous situations.
