Delmon Scaffolding Makes The Cut in Doha!

Delmon Scaffolding is one of the largest provider of formwork, scaffolding and shoring in the Middle East

Following on from a number of recent high profile awards, Delmon Scaffolding has reinforced its position as the number one temporary works provider in Qatar with yet another new contract, this time in Al Hamad International Airport Metro Station.

In this project, Delmon are providing temporary works solutions to a specialist Irish firm, JMCI, who in turn have the contract of removing sections of the previously built concrete structure. Delmon’s scope is to provide a support for the concrete structure while JMCI, an expert concrete cutting company, literally cuts out substantial sections of the existing metro structure in order to facilitate improved architectural layouts.

Large parts of existing concrete transfer slabs and beams in the Metro Station are cut from the structure using wire saws and are then lifted out by crane. A simple procedure, until you consider that the elements involved weigh up to 25 tonnes each, are 22 meters from the ground and must be fully supported during cutting – little surprise the contractor turned to Delmon.

To support these enormous sections during cutting, Delmon’s solution was to provide main support of Ulma T60 heavy duty shoring towers, with DU 100 Walers acting as spreaders in order to distribute the loads to the tower legs. The towers have a capacity of 60kN per leg, so the T60 can easily accommodate the loads and heights involved, while also flexible enough to accommodate the complex geometry. Careful coordination with the tower layout was required to avoid clashing with cutting lines and ensure stability during this potentially risky process.

He further added that ‘because of our experience and expertise in this area, we were able to offer a simple, safe and economic solution to the contractor enabling him complete this potentially complex and hazardous element of work seamlessly’
