A new survey suggests that people must spend a reasonable amount of money on Valentine’s Day. How much?

How much you spend on your Valentine is not a measure of how much you care, nor does it mean that expensive gifts are more meaningful. Just like the handmade Valentine’s of our elementary school days – the best Valentine’s are ones that come straight from the heart.

Since we know that many young engineers are budget-conscious, we’re going to assume that you must be wondering how much to spend on your Valentine this year. And we’re here to tell you that it is completely acceptable to use how long you have been with your partner to determine how much you spend for the big day of love.

Valentines Date Spending – How Much?

According to a survey of 2,204 individuals by Cashless app maker Clipp.co, 70 percent of the people plan to take their date out for dinner and drinks on Valentine’s Day.

Couples who have dated less than three months are said to be the most frugal limiting to $100 spending.

They accounted 44 percent of the respondents.

Couples passing through the six month threshold, however, says that they spend more at $200 in their dates accounting to 62 percent of the respondents. This concludes that the remaining will be willing to spend higher at $300 or more for their dates. These couples are definitely the most consistent in relationships who are willing to invest and spend on their dates.

An interesting finding also suggests that 76 percent of the women respondents are willing to contribute to the bill. Men, however, of 78 percent believes that they should pay for the bill.

The median amount for both men and women across all age brackets was $50.

The average amounts for different age groups were as follows:

  • 18-to 29-year-olds planned to spend $62.04
  • 30-to 44-year-olds planned to spend $82.86
  • 45-to 60-year-olds planned to spend $66.50
  • People ages 60 and older planned to spend $62.11

When it comes to splurging on reservations, flowers, chocolates, or other gifts, people between the ages of 30 and 44 will spend more than any other age group, and millennials and baby boomers budgeted around the same amount at $62.
