Why HVAC Engineers Should Choose Quality Insulation

HVAC suppliers should provide high quality insulation products to MEP engineers.

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) engineers have different areas of focus. But in building technology, one of the most important components is a quality insulation.

In simple terms, insulation is the process of keeping heat, sound, or electricity from spreading. It helps resist the flow of air from warmer areas to cooler areas through walls, ceiling, roofs, and other building surfaces. Its primary goal is to help keep outdoor air from getting inside the building and conditioned indoor air from escaping.

Building insulation has different types depending on where the HVAC product or system is installed. The idea is to create a ‘building envelope’ which means several types of insulation may be used in any given area.

Every building insulation product is rated based on a measurement of resistance the material has to the movement of heat, which is commonly known as R-value. The higher the R-value, the more effective the insulation.

Given that, the more heat flow resistance that the HVAC product or system provides in insulation, the lower the heating and cooling costs.

But apart from the cost considerations, installing proper and quality insulation in buildings has essentially three key areas of importance: energy efficiency, human comfort, and sound proofing.

Energy Efficiency

Insulation deals with different kinds of energy. And when the insulation is poor, energy can easily be wasted, also entailing unnecessary costs.

With quality insulation in place in terms of materials used and installment, it helps in decreasing energy demands in heating and cooling systems. This is now necessary because according to the U.S. Department of Energy, heating and cooling account for 50% to 70% of an average house’s energy usage.

Human Comfort

The primary role of insulation for the people is to make them comfortable by keeping buildings with the right temperatures inside – make them warm in hot weather and cold during hot season.

Building owners need to invest in quality insulation for the simple reason that the absence of such can have a negative impact not only on the building users’ comfort but also on their morale and productivity. A good indoor air quality starts with quality insulation.

Sound Proofing

Installing quality insulation is one of the best ways in creating a sound barrier, both for keeping noise in and preventing outdoor noises. This is a particularly effective measure when in built up areas with a number of properties in the surrounding area.

There are different types of insulation according to material composition. Two of the superior ones are polyolefin insulation and rubber insulation.

Polyolefin Insulation

The major characteristic of polyolefin insulation products is that they consist of nearly 100% closed-cell foam. They are lightweight and flexible, offering excellent thermal insulation, high mechanical resistance, hygienic nature, and safety in case of fire. Compared to other materials, polyolefin insulation is easier to cut, punch and press mold, and can also be processed in other ways.

Rubber Insulation

This insulation is highly recommended for condensation control due to its excellent water vapor resistance and thermal conductivity. Applications of rubber insulation include refrigerant lines, cold-water plumbing and chilled-water systems.

When it comes to polyolefin insulation and rubber insulation products, a trusted brand in the HVAC industry globally is Aerofoam Insulation. A business line of Hira Industries LLC, Aerofoam manufactures a comprehensive range of polyolefin insulation and rubber insulation products.

This includes the Aerofoam XLPE, which represents one of the finest range of premium polyethylene foam. This can be used in various applications in industries like HVAC, construction, industrial, and automotive. Another is the Aerofoam NBR, a flexible light-weight elastomeric foam suitable for thermal insulation.

Both products are available in tube, roll and sheet form and cover a wide range of thicknesses and diameters.

Hira Industries LLC manufactures these HVAC products with the highest quality through meeting international standards and conducting regular tests. Also worth noting is one of the most unique characteristics of Aerofoam products: their high resistance to fungi and molds. This allows for a much safer, cleaner, and more hygienic insulation performance over a long period of time.
