This Man Created A Knife From Medicine, Beer and Bacon

Youtuber and Knife-maker Green Bettle creates a knife that was carburized with heartburn medicine, quenched with beer, and a handle made out of bacon and fries

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create a knife out of beer, bacon, fries, and heartburn medicine? No? Well, Youtuber and knife maker Green Beetle did just that! He named his beautiful creation the “’Murica Knife”.

Why? Because why not?!

Now, knife making isn’t some easy business. A good knife needs to be carburized in some material made out of a lot of carbon to turn the iron into steel, then it needs to be dunked in liquid whilst still glowing red hot, and then have a handle that’s more comfortable to hold than the steel itself attached to the blade. Luckily for us, Green Beetle sure knows what he’s doing, and made this beautiful knife with all three of these ingredients from edible material.

For a more detailed yet simplified explanation as to how he made this “’murica knife”, first took a bunch of iron he bought online and put it into a container mixed with “Tums”, a carbon-rich heartburn medicine. He then put the container into an oven at 1900 degrees Celsius for 2 hours to carburize the iron and turn it into hardy steel. Next, he welded the steel pieces together and forged them in it to bring them to the proper shape. After it has been shaped, it was put into thermal cycling and then a heat treatment. The glowing blade was quenched in a pitcher of beer for a few seconds and then quenched in a pitcher of oil. Finally, he sanded the knife to clean up the blade and make it sharp.

For the handle, he took some bacon and fries, dehydrated them with acetone, coated them in resin, and stabilized them in a vacuum chamber with cactus juice-resin. He then enveloped the bacon and fries into some “Crystal Clear” resin, which was allowed to dry and hardened into a block-like material with the food within it, which was then shaped into a nice, comfortable handle and attached to the blade. Finally, the blade was cleaned up, and it was good to go.

Whilst the knife isn’t really ideal for hunting or for making a cabin, it was strong enough to nicely cut through paper and burgers. I mean, with a knife made out of fast food, that’s really all you need.
