Wearables which are designed for the wrist and upper parts of the body are not at all new. We’ve got a couple of that in the industry, like smart watches, glasses, and headsets. But how about those worn in the lower limbs?
An invention by Nitto and Chiba University based in Yokohama in Japan is perhaps one of the best examples in that category. Called the Archelis, this is a wearable chair which is worn on the lower part of the body, especially legs. Like a leg brace.

The primary function of Archelis, which name literally means “walkable chair in Japanese, is to ease the fatigue by supporting key pressure points of the leg like the top of the thigh, the front of the calves, and the balls of the heels.
Despite that it is worn throughout the legs, it provides a full walking range of motion thanks to the extra joints at both the knee and ankle positions. There is no need to constantly remove the wearable.
While wearing the Archelis, the user can sit at any point of time and anywhere without having to drag a chair, because the wearable already acts as a chair. He or she can fix the angle of the knee join and ankle too, allowing the user to “sit” in the middle posture.

This was first designed for doctors and surgeons who spend long hours standing on their feet, sometimes in awkward reaching positions, having little to no time for rest. With Archelis, the hassle of finding a chair nearby which is perfect for the operating position is removed.
It doesn’t have to hinder in the user’s clothing too as it fits under any clothes. Archelis is made from metal and carbon material which is strong, lightweight, and flexible.
