How Taking A Day Off Can Boost An Engineers Productivity

Life is not all about working. Here are a few reasons why you should definitely take a break, or even a day off. You’ve earned it.

I know some of us are really motivated to get things done. That’s why people often opt out of their day off just to get more things finished. It’s a wonderful feeling to see your project done at a quicker pace or to have a desk of paperwork, well, empty. But going too far with your work can lead to some problems as well. That’s why it’s good to take that breather once in awhile. Here are some few things you should know about taking a day off and why you should absolutely do it.

Boost your energy levels

When you say that you’re not really tired after working 7 days a week, you’re probably just saying that. Our bodies can only handle so much at a time, and not allowing your body to rest can lead to negative effects to your body. Even if you’ve convinced your mind that you’re okay, your body will show some damage. Eye bags, pale lips, or even a sloppy posture can show that your body’s not taking it too well.

You Give Your Brain Time To Have Fun

Fun isn’t playing solitaire on your computer. Fun is a hobby that you probably had but forgot all about. When someone asks “what do you do for fun?”, your response shouldn’t be “that’s a good question, let me get back to you on that”

Sometimes, you just don’t notice that everything around you is starting to drift away. You have this favorite restaurant that you go to, but when you get there, it’s already been closed for a year. If you allow your whole time to be consumed by work, time from other activities will be compromised. Spend more time with family and friends, take a day off.

Think about your work patterns

If you’re not able to take a day off due to an outstanding amount of work that you never seem to get done, it’s time for you to take a break. Stopping at this moment will not only prevent any waste of effort in your part, it also allows you to think about what you’re doing wrong. Take a step back from what you’re doing and think of ways on how you can improve your productivity. Think of it as a puzzle you need to solve, everything gets clearer if you see the bigger picture. Taking a day off allows your mind to breathe, and who knows, that might just be what you need.
