Boost Your Engineering Team’s Productivity By Revamping Your Office Space

Who wouldn’t want a fresh and organized yet fun working environment and space to work in?

Everyone knows that a good work environment is an essential part to making sure you and your team is working to the best of their abilities, but how often do we actually implement it? Sometimes, we just end up making and renting boring, corporate rooms with white walls and no windows, and that shouldn’t be the case.

If you want you and your team to be the most productive you can be, you have to make an effort to make your office space as comfortable yet work-conducive as possible. Here are 4 tips to get you started with revamping your office.

Adapt to your team’s needs

Remember, your office space needs to be comfortable, but should still be suited to how your team works. A playground-esque office might work for Google, but it won’t for other companies that need to keep distractions to a minimum. If your team works late hours, build a rest area with sleeping pods to those who need to nap or stay the night. If work is tense, build a way to have them blow off steam like an entertainment corner or a fitness area with a punching bag. Adapt to what your team’s needs.

Balance concentration and collaboration

So instead, make sure that it has a shared space for collaboration purposes, but also a few rooms for isolation when one needs to concentrate.

Gray walls and spaces are boring and dull, so why not spice it up with color? Psychologists have linked color to mood and emotion as well, so it’s a good plus. Orange promotes creativity and endurance, Blue has a calming effect and projects a trustworthy image, white creates a sense of spaciousness and helps boost creativity when there’s plenty of natural light, Red brings heart rates up and makes people more alert, Yellow promotes feelings of happiness and optimism, and Green boosts creative thinking.

Let the light in

Anyone knows that working in a place with no windows and full of artificial light is far from ideal; it’s been proven to cause physical problems and decrease vitality. So let that light in and shine through your office. Make sure there’s a window wherever possible, and if there’s a space that really can’t have a window, then use a glass partition instead of drywall to let the natural light from the other room into the other room as well.
