Garnering an over-all score of 97% based on Academic and Employer Reputation, Research Citations on Paper and H-Index, University of California, Berkeley was ranked as the top performing school in environmental science by QS World University Rankings. 1.4% away from UCB is the Stanford University followed by the third placer Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The rankings were developed together with Elsevier to aid freshmen and transferees in identifying the leading universities in their chosen field.
