Exclusive interview with Lisa Henthorne, Sr. VP and Chief Technology Officer at Water Standard during the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2017)


Water Standard is a globally recognized leader in delivering innovative water treatment solutions to the energy industry and specializes in compact modular systems and mobile onshore and offshore facilities. The company’s products include: produced water, flowback and oily water treatment equipment, waterflooding/IOR/EOR seawater treatment systems, and units for filtration, desalination, softening, sulphate removal, membrane deaeration, and ultrapure and service water production.

The company designs, engineers, and manufactures various water treatment and separation equipment, using its Monarch Separators’ Houston, Texas based facility for fabrication. Monarch Separators has served the global energy industry for more than 45 years and its produced water treatment equipment is a mainstay in the industry with more than 3,000 units installed around the world.

Water Standard also offers a host of consulting, engineering, trouble shooting and operations services including:  feasibility, concept select, and FEED design services, troubleshooting and optimization of water treatment systems, membrane autopsies and related diagnostics; membrane cleaning testing and analysis; filtration/permeability reduction testing, cartridge filter deposit analysis; and onsite data collection.

Lisa Henthorne, Sr. Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Water Standard, has 25+ years of experience in the water treatment industry and is a worldwide leading expert in water treatment for oil and gas, industrial and municipal applications. Ms. Henthorne was ranked #5 out of 25 of the Water Industry’s High Fliers in Water World magazine and is a frequent guest speaker and lecturer throughout the world.

Much of her initial work at Water Standard was focused on developing customized water chemistries to enhance oil recovery in low salinity and chemical enhanced oil recovery schemes. After Water Standard’s acquisition of Monarch Separators, her focus shifted to include environmentally-friendly produced water reuse opportunities and safe discharge back into the water cycle.

Ms. Henthorne currently sits on the Board of the Produced Water Society and from 2007-2009 she was the president of the International Desalination Association (IDA) and sat on the board for 16 years. Ms. Henthorne holds three U.S. patents in water treatment, with multiple US and international patents pending. She holds a Master’s of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry.
