During the Waterlinks conference and exhibition in Manila, Malcolm Maclarty, Project Manager of Arup Philippines, one of the largest design and engineering consultancy firms in the world talks to GineersNow TV about their latest technologies, innovations and water industry expectations.

About Arup 

Arup is the creative force at the heart of many of the world’s most prominent projects in the built environment and across industry.  From 89 offices in 34 countries our 14,000 planners, designers, engineers and consultants deliver innovative projects across the world with creativity and passion.

We opened our office in Manila in 1990, and have over 120 employees who are fully conversant with international design standards. The office offers multidisciplinary design services covering water, railway, highway, structural, environmental, geotechnical, and building services as well as BIM and CAD services.

Arup has established itself as an industry leader in water engineering in the Philippines.   We provide design, project development, procurement and project management services for water, sewerage, used water and waste to energy projects.  This has included the 1,500 MLD La Mesa WTP 1 rehabilitation, the 75 MLD Taguig North STP and the 150 MLD Putatan WTP 2 project.

Globally Arup is at the forefront of managing water within the complete water cycle.  We are experienced at water and city resilience evaluation and planning, addressing critical issues relating to resilience, flood risk, water supply and wastewater treatment by placing a re-integrated water cycle at the heart of sustainable planning, design and delivery.    Key to our approach is making sure that we contribute to the wider agenda of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. In our recent research Cities Alive: Water for People report, we explore pioneering water approaches to cope with the challenges of population growth and climate change in cities around the world.

About Malcolm MacLarty

Project Manager, Arup Philippines

Malcolm is the Water Lead for Arup Philippines.  He specializes in the delivery of complex infrastructure and industrial projects particularly in water, waste and energy facilities, with 23 years of experience in Asia, Africa and Europe.  He has extensive knowledge in commercial and contract management gained both as the client and the contractor, and successfully delivered numerous projects ranging from pre-feasibility studies and business planning, to refurbishment projects and existing plant capacity upgrades.

Malcolm studied Mechanical Engineering before obtaining an MBA degree in Project Management from Henley Business School in the UK.
