We’ve reached that age in humanity wherein food preparation is done by robots. And now, they’re making the famous Japanese food called sushi.
Robotics manufacturer Kawasaki is looking at robots to take over the jobs of sushi chefs soon. In a showroom in Tokyo, the company displayed their robot preparing nigiri, which is a traditional type of sushi that is a little ball of rice with a piece of raw fish on top.
The systems works by having one arm of the robot clinching the sides of the pressed bundles of rice and moving the completed nigiri pieces to a wooden block. The other arm takes the wasabi and squeezes it over the rice, while also picking up a vacuum that lifts the fish to be placed on the rice.
More than just their cooking is their speed while doing so. Preparing such sushi only takes under one minute, quite a comparison to its human counterparts. While it’s still far and nearly impossible that such robots will get a Michelin three-star sushi, let’s settle with what they have prepared if you’re too tired to get that ready-to-buy sushi from the grocery store.
