3D Calligraphy
Calligraphy, or the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush, is a visual art that is easy to appreciate. It is made on paper using colorful ink, more often than not in 2D. But what about if the ink appears to be leaping off the page?
That is the specialty of Turkish electrical engineer and graphic designer Tolga Girgin. He has created stunning 3-dimensional calligraphy art that is bounds and bounds more awesome than without the pop-out effect.
His 3D optical illusions depend on light, perspective and shadow. He always make the words and figures appear to stand upright on paper or weave through the lines in notebooks.
As to who inspired him to pursue this wonderful art, he said that it was his wife.
“My wife Zeynep encouraged me to start calligraphy,” Girgin told Calligraphy Masters. “She likes my handwriting and wanted me to share them on the web.”
In the same interview, he shared that finishing a word depends on what word he is going to design or if it needs calculations.
“A short word is very easy for me, about 20 minutes,” he said. “But if I want to do it on two pieces of paper, or a sentence, I have to make some calculations, so it takes up to 2 or 3 hours sometimes.”
According to his Behance profile, Girgin does calligraphy, lettering and drawing, while working as an Electrical and Electronics Engineer in a company in Eskişehir, Turkey. He studied Electrical Engineering at Pamukkale University in Denizli.
