While most of us were still struggling to talk and walk properly when we were three years old, this little girl was considered a genius already. Back in 2014, news broke out about Alexis Martin about her IQ score that is 60 above the world average in IQ estimate. Her IQ score of 160 is on par with the most famous genius himself, Albert Einstein.
Living in Queen Creek, Arizona, Alexis Martin was already narrating bed time stories when she was just 18 months old, taught herself Spanish and even started memorizing the state capital names which she searched in her dad’s iPad. Her dad, Ian, said, “From 12 to 18 months old, we’d be driving around in the car, and she would recite her bedtime story from the night before. She didn’t just recite them; she recited them exactly.”

So, when she turned three years old, she got accepted to MENSA, which only accepts members with IQ scores that fall within the top two percentile. Alexis was the youngest member to have joined MENSA in 2014.
MENSA has over 3,500 members that are under the age of 18. It also has over 56,000 adult members. Some members you’re familiar with may include Nolan Gould from ABC’s Modern Family and Richard Bolles, the author of “What Color is Your Parachute?”
Lisa Van Gemert, the gifted youth specialist from MENSA, explains what it feels like to have a high IQ. She said, “Anybody with very high IQ, they have the ability to manipulate, process and interpret information at a deeper level and a higher speed than the average person.” However, she doesn’t recommend parents to have their kids’ IQ tested because it may lead to frustration sometimes. She added, “If the kid just turns out to be average intelligence or just normal gifted, as opposed to freak show smart, then they feel disappointed and it becomes a contest. That’s really unhealthy.”
