Almost 70 percent of people say that giving back and being civically engaged are their highest priorities. This is what Leigh Buchanon had written in “Meet the Millennials”.

As millennials will constitute a majority of the workforce by the early 2020’s, industries like the oil and gas industry must seek new ways to gain the attention and keep the millennials in work.

To do so, managers and human resources professionals from the industries will need to cultivate new engagement models keep the differences between other generations and millennials.

Millenials Viewpoint on Employment

Millennials have a drastically different outlook on what they expect from their employment experience. Like what McKinsey & Co’s report stated, “Millenials don’t just want personal career growth, they expect to make a positive contribution to society.” Allowing them to grow and learn in their workplace will help them make change and keep their jobs this means implementing training, mentorship, leadership and partnership programs. Employers must be aware that these are needed for millennials’ employee engagement and retention. They are learners and as they crave for information, mentoring is a great way to achieve this goal.

Millennials have a drastically different outlook on what they expect from their employment experience. They are well educated, skilled in technology, very self-confident, able to multi-task, and have plenty of energy. They have high expectations for themselves and prefer to work in teams, rather than as individuals.

Millennials seek challenges, yet work life balance is of utmost importance to them. They do, however, realize that their need for social interaction, immediate results in their work, and desire for speedy advancement may be seen as weaknesses by older colleagues.
