Vaccination in the Oil & Gas Industry

Petroleum products play a role in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines

Vaccination in the Oil & Gas Industry

While the oil and natural gas industry did have a significant contribution to the fight against the threat of COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of their involvement in it didn’t make media coverage at all. Surprisingly, this is a good sign for the industry.

This meant that people are not talking about oil, natural gas, and the technicalities that came with them more often than necessary. You see, unlike the numerous items that became out of stock in the grocery in the peak of the lockdown season (toilet paper, pork loin, ramen soup, paper towels), the oil and gas industry continued to provide service to homes and businesses worldwide.

During the ongoing crisis, the energy sector has tirelessly maintained its services, especially when quarantine protocols were put in place. It has powered every household and vehicle across the globe, enough that people didn’t notice any change at all despite the price crash and disruptions in demand that happened at the start of the pandemic.

Apart from making enough energy available for use, the oil and gas industry has also worked behind the scenes to ensure that healthcare vaccination facilities and medical equipment are meeting standards. This is where petroleum-based products, including medical supplies, including gowns, surgical equipment, medical gloves, masks, ventilators, and other single-use equipment, come in. Unbeknownst to many, such items are made of petroleum to some extent.

Petroleum products play a role in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines, as well. They will most definitely be in demand as soon as the actual distribution begins, and the vaccines are moved from the production sites to the administration centers for public consumption. Along the way, industrial refrigeration equipment that also exists because of petroleum-based products will also be in use to maintain the freezing temperatures required by certain vaccines.
