Worldwide remittance company Al Ansari Exchange has been holding an annual raffle draw called Al Ansari Rewards-Summer Promotion, usually running for two months in mid-year. And in 2017, a Filipino engineer was lucky enough to be picked as the big winner.
Al Dizon Bansil, a quantity surveyor, is the newest millionaire in the United Arab Emirates. The 43-year-old won the grand prize of Dh1 million, which is nearly P14 million.
“I was at work when I received the call that I was pre-qualified for the grand draw,” Bansil told Gulf News. “Then when the grand draw was being held earlier, I was really nervous. I prayed to win… and I did.”
All it took him to have a raffle ticket for the draw is by using the service of Al Ansari Exchange. He sent Dh 3,677, or about 51,000, worth of remittance to his wife in Pampanga. Bansil said he regularly remits a similar amount to support his family.
“I badly wanted to win because this is a chance of a lifetime. It’s definitely going to change my life and my family’s life,” Bansil, a father of one, said.

He already claimed his cheque and looks forward to celebrate with his family in Pampanga. This, while admitting that winning the draw is still so surreal to the engineer.
“I don’t know what to do with the money yet,” he said, “I don’t want to think of it for now. My priority is to go home to be with my family for this special occasion.”
