Engineer’s Guide To The 4 Most Common Type Of Learners

There’s no cookie cutter approach when it comes to these type of learners.

Most people believe that a specific method would work for an entire group. That notion can never be more wrong. Not all people think the same way, that’s why people have different views in solving a problem. There are certain type of learners who can pick up some material and master it in a few days, while most people would take a while to even understand it. This is true based on the fact that there are different kinds of learning. And while it may seem like a farfetched idea, here are the 4 most common type of learners.

Visual Learner
If you find yourself often ‘visualizing’ the problem, this might just be you. You understand charts, maps, and essays like it’s second nature, and it’s also the best way to teach yourself new things. Visual learners are often good at remembering faces, but not names. They’ll often have perfect spelling due to their passion in reading. Some good ways of approaching your learning are flash cards, color coding, and reading.
Kinesthetic Learner
Do you often fidget during a training session when you’re forced to sit while not doing anything? That may be a sign that you’re a Kinesthetic Learner. They are more accustomed to solving problems with a hands-on solution. Being a kinesthetic learner means you have good coordination. They either excel in drama, art, or even athletics. Simply tracing your finger along your notes while reading or walking while studying your notes can boost your learning.
Auditory Learner
You’ve probably guessed it, and yes, this learning relates to sounds. Auditory learners tend to rely more on their ears during training lessons. They tend to speak slowly and read at a slower pace as well. If you are easily distracted by noises while taking lessons, you might be an auditory learner. Try using videos for learning and join study groups that discuss findings whenever possible.
Reading and Writing Learner
There are many ways to study for an exam. You can hire a personal tutor, reading manuals, or even rewriting everything on your notes. If you’ve done the last two, then you’re probably a Reading and Writing Learner. Making lists, writing down notes from a book, and preferring detailed instructions are common signs of reading and writing learners.
