What It Felt To Fall In Love With My Engineering Professor

Just like any engineering student who had to struggle with one’s academic life, I was able to move on from my professor after a few months.

It was the first day of school and I just shifted to a new course. It was an unfamiliar territory and I was too naive to know my way around my new college. Students passed me by like they’re still trying to get over the end of summer. As soon as I entered the room where my first class was going to be held, I sat at the back, hoping I wouldn’t get into trouble.

You came in right on time. With your glasses on and an authoritative vibe, I knew I was going to love going to this class. I was clearly drawn to your presence the moment I saw you. Maybe I just had a thing for the young engineering professors. Unfortunately, your girlfriend walked in the class to shatter my hopes of getting to know you more. Seriously, what kind of professor takes his girlfriend to class full of engineering students?

He was just four years older than me. He was the junior professor in our electrical engineering class and I just couldn’t ignore how smart he was. He was passionate about teaching his students the basics of electrical engineering and listening to him explaining why things are the way they are made me love my new course already. Maybe I was starting to develop deep feelings for him as well.

Months passed by and I just couldn’t help myself fall for you even further. Student-professor relationships are frowned upon in universities so I just kept my distance. I did try to excel in the class though. I payed close attention to him  and approached him after class just to discuss any related topic of the class for a few extra minutes with him. He was young and clearly he can observe that I was attracted to him. A part of me felt that he liked the attention I was giving him but we never crossed the line in any way. I respected him being in a relationship and he was my professor after all. He didn’t want to get into trouble and I didn’t want to get kicked out of my program.

One semester passed by and just like that, I had to say goodbye to the class and the professor I fell in love with. The only good thing I got from the class was an A. All thanks to feeling inspired from having him as my professor. He really was a good teacher to us.

Just like any engineering student who had to struggle with one’s academic life, I was able to move on from my professor after a few months. Until one day, a friend of mine just told me that he had broken up with his girlfriend for a few months already. It’s been a year since we last saw each other but I see his posts on social media every now and then. I was feeling brave that time and my friend urged me to ask him out for coffee.

So I did. I asked him if he wanted to hang out. He said yes.
