Machinery manufacturers are going big in Asia as recent data shows that five out of nine companies that topped the list of being the largest in the industry are from the said region. Although construction leaders from the U.S. got the first and last spot based on construction equipment sales as published by Statistica, it is still undeniable that machinery manufacturers in the East are becoming more powerful and influential in the market.
Let’s take a look at who these machinery manufacturers are and their construction equipment sales in U.S. billion dollars.
Caterpillar – US $26.64 billion
One of the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. The company principally operates through its three primary segments – Construction Industries, Resource Industries and Energy & Transportation – and also provides financing and related services through its Financial Products segment.
Komatsu – US $19.24 billion
Komatsu is a Japanese company which main businesses are manufacturing and sales of construction and mining equipment, utilities, forest machines and industrial machinery. Komatsu Group is consists of Komatsu Ltd., and 266 other companies which have 193 operations. The company has more than 60,00 employees.
Hitachi – US $8.3 billion
Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, delivers innovations that answer society’s challenges with its talented team and proven experience in global markets. Hitachi is focusing more than ever on the Social Innovation Business, which includes power & infrastructure systems, information & telecommunication systems, construction machinery, high functional materials & components, automotive systems, healthcare and others.
Volvo CE – US $7.81 billion
This Swedish company is a leading international manufacturer of premium construction equipment, and with over 14,000 employees, they are one of the largest companies in the industry. Their wide range of products and services are offered in more than 140 countries through a global distribution network.
Liebherr – US $7.4 billion
Liebherr is not only one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction machinery. The more than 43,500 employees also help to shape technological advances in many other industries. The Liebherr Group is still managed by the Liebherr family. It is founded in Switzerland.
XCMG – US $6.98 billion
A Chinese multinational state-owned heavy machinery manufacturer, XCMG or Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group has also done a joint venture with other companies in the list such as Caterpillar and Liebherr. Their XCMG DE400 is considered the most massive land vehicle in 2017. In 2012, their QAY1600, the world’s largest all-terrain crane, was also launched.
Doosan Infracore – US $6.23 billion
Doosan is the fastest growing Infrastructure Support Business in the world. They provide communities across five continents with the fundamental solutions, tools and structures they need to advance their societies. Doosan is made up of two Korean words. ‘Doo’ means a unit of grain, while ‘San’ means a mountain.
Sany – US $5.93 billion
SANY is a Chinese global manufacturer of industry-leading construction and mining equipment, port and oil drilling machinery, and renewable wind-energy systems.SANY has built 25 manufacturing bases and over 100 offices with more than 400 agents and 8,000 suppliers worldwide.
John Deere – US $5.72 billion
This American company manufactures construction, diesel engines, forestry machinery, agricultural, lawn care equipment, and drive trains used in heavy equipment. It was established in the 19th century and through the years, its name has created an impact in the construction industry and a premier option from the pool of competent machinery manufacturers.
