The Girls Auto Clinic isn’t just some oil changing and car repair service- It’s also a revolutionary shop that aims to change the relationship between women and the automotive industry. It also offers a range of salon services to help you relax and lay back while you wait.
The shop was founded by engineer and mechanic Patrice Banks as a stress-free environment for women to have their automobiles serviced and to educate them more on the technicalities of vehicles in a respectful and supportive manner. GAC was created out of the frustration and maltreatment of female customers when dealing with male mechanics, who often either ridicule them or take advantage of their lack of knowledge in the field to make them pay for more. This shop combats this abuse by empowering women to become #sheCANics, a hashtag started by Banks and what she uses to describe herself.
While GAC has been open near Philadelphia since 2013, they now have a new addition to their shop: the Clutch Beauty Bar. Clutch offers manicures, pedicures, and blowouts while customers wait for the mechanics to fix their automobile. This has brought the shop a whole new wave of fame; Not only will the Girl’s Auto Clinic give you a freshly serviced rice, you’ll also have head turning hair and nails!
