This All-Female Auto Shop Gives You A Makeover While They Fix Your Car

Patrice Banks, engineer and owner, shows you that an auto shop is not just for men.

The Girls Auto Clinic isn’t just some oil changing and car repair service- It’s also a revolutionary shop that aims to change the relationship between women and the automotive industry. It also offers a range of salon services to help you relax and lay back while you wait.

The shop was founded by engineer and mechanic Patrice Banks as a stress-free environment for women to have their automobiles serviced and to educate them more on the technicalities of vehicles in a respectful and supportive manner. GAC was created out of the frustration and maltreatment of female customers when dealing with male mechanics, who often either ridicule them or take advantage of their lack of knowledge in the field to make them pay for more. This shop combats this abuse by empowering women to become #sheCANics, a hashtag started by Banks and what she uses to describe herself.

While GAC has been open near Philadelphia since 2013, they now have a new addition to their shop: the Clutch Beauty Bar. Clutch offers manicures, pedicures, and blowouts while customers wait for the mechanics to fix their automobile. This has brought the shop a whole new wave of fame; Not only will the Girl’s Auto Clinic give you a freshly serviced rice, you’ll also have head turning hair and nails!

  1. Totally awesome to see women doing their thing and pampering us women while fixing our cars so beautiful the way u all treat us as women thank you so much will a shop like that come to California too

  2. Bravo…. The before mentioned article is a breath of fresh air. More women should read about these brave and inspirational young entrepreneurs. I am a member of the Perkins Non- Trade By Gender- Sub Committee, at Quinsigamond Community College. The committees purpose is to find ways to break gender assignments in trade. The perspective a woman brings to any and all organizations is priceless. I will bring this article with me to our next meeting. Any advice on how to help young woman that are not yet sure of what they want to do for a career; a way to get them to consider careers in machinery, automotive, and engineering careers? For me, to inspire others to consider an exciting and rewarding future in what was once considered a male dominated industry would be great for the community here in Worcester, MA. Thanks for the article, best, Sincerely, Nelly Medina.
