There’s a new Apple Store being built in downtown Chicago that’s already making headlines. No, it’s not selling a new Apple product. What’s newsworthy about it is that it has a giant MacBook on top. The construction guys have already laid out the seamless, silver, rectangular roof, which is very similar to what a MacBook looks like. The killing blow? It also has the signature Apple logo flush in the middle. If that’s not a MacBook to you, we don’t know what is. Although, the logo was removed around an hour after it was placed.

The design was created by Foster+Partners, a London-based design company. The new store serves as a relocation of the original flagship store in North Michigan Ave. The store is massive at 20,000 square feet, which will be covered in all glass walls, donned with a thin, carbon fiber roof. There were some talk about the roof being too similar to a MacBook design, and some local news outlet mentioned that an Apple logo will rest on top as early as March 2017. The initial concept was revealed last 2015, and aimed to create something similar to Prairie Style homes. The glass walls would be 14 to 32 feet in height and is comprised of four layers of ½” thick glass and laminated glass.

The logo on top, however, wasn’t part of the original plans. Some news circulations, as we mentioned earlier, just happened to get wind of it. It’s not sure why they removed it soon after though. That said, the roof is made of carbon fiber and is structured similarly to a yacht’s hulls which makes it thin but sturdy. It reportedly measures four feet at its thickest point and four inches at its thinnest. After completion, the store will include a plaza outdoors and a video wall. There would also be a gathering space (called “The Forum”) for the customers. Although there hasn’t been any news when the new Apple Store will open, it’s definitely attracting a lot of attention.
