Have You Seen Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in Virtual Reality?

The magazine launches its infamous Swimsuit issue with Virtual Reality feature.

A dream come true gents… Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is now available in virtual reality.

Just like how The New York Times made history in shipping Google Cardboard headsets to print magazines to subscribers, Sports Illustrated, with claimed 60 million readers, was reported to do the same in jumping into Virtual Reality. With its infamous Swimsuit issue, the magazine, along its iOS and Android companion apps, will feature virtual reality clips. It will also include Google Cardboard headsets in the magazines that will cost around $10, more than $2 the usual price.

The online app subscription will have unlockable content for its subscribers and buyers and $4.99 for everyone else. Half of the VR clips costs $1.99 with unlockable content.

“VR is an emerging tech and we want to get out ahead in this space”, says Sport Illustrated creative director Chris Hercik. They plan to feature more VR content this year. It’s all about access and experience, he said.

Seems like VR is expected to boom in all media this year.
