The HVAC Pandemic Year

The COVID-19 health crisis made people more concerned than ever before about the quality of the air they breathe

The HVAC Pandemic Year

Certain sectors, like retail and foodservice, were particularly affected by the pandemic. However, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration all worked in the other direction. According to Jobber’s Home Service Economic Report, the contracting sector of the economy expanded substantially. This includes HVAC. In June 2020, the industry reached new heights and continued to expand steadily in the months that followed.

Over the last year, we’ve witnessed a surge in interest and demand for cleaner air filtration systems in companies, restaurants, schools, and even households – and this trend seems to have persisted. The COVID-19 health crisis made people more concerned than ever before about the quality of the air they breathe.

As awareness of the need for cleaner air continues to grow this year, it is an area in which HVAC businesses may invest. Contractors should educate their clients about self-service air filtration and simple maintenance. Information on filter replacement — how often, with which kind, and where to purchase — is important to this group and will be noted throughout the buying process.

But while there has been a desire for cleaner air systems, economic uncertainty has slowed the implementation of many optional improvements and/or necessary replacements for homes and businesses. To address this, contractors may offer basic education on indoor air quality and the actions building management can take to improve it without investing a lot of time or money. Additionally, owners profit from investing in the maintenance and filtration of their systems, since this is an obvious selling point for attracting new tenants.

With the growth of virtual companies, it is critical to integrate online services into the consumer buying experience in order to be successful today and in the future. Just like real estate brokers use virtual tours to sell houses, contractors may use video material to educate their clients on fundamental topics such as how to change a filter or which product is the best fit for their requirements. Throughout the pandemic, we’ve witnessed an increase in online transactions, demonstrating that digital is really the future of business.
