Fast and Furious, Need for Speed, Getaway, Drive Angry and Gone in 60 Seconds—these are just some of the heart-stopping movies that have bad-ass cars with awesome drivers. Now, awesome customized cars are being created based from these movies. They would change the engines and customize the frames to make the cars faster, cooler, more powerful—for a more breathtaking ride. Now how about a Volkswagen Beetle?

Ron Patrick, an engineer with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, is one of those guys who has a passion for customizing automobiles. He created a jet-powered Volkswagen beetle—and it’s street-legal! His car has two engines, the first one is the production gasoline engine in the front which drives the front wheels, and the second one is a jet engine at the back.

The car is licensed in California. According to Patrick’s website, the engine he used is a General Electric Model T58-8F. It’s a helicopter turboshaft engine which was converted into a jet engine by doing some internal modifications. The website states that “the engine spins up to 26,000 RPM (idle is 13,000 RPM), draws air at 11,000 CFM, and is rated at 1350 hp. It weighs only 300 lbm.”

He built this awesome car simply because he wanted to have the wildest street-legal ride possible. By applying what he learned from his engineering degree, he was able to design a street-legal jet car. “I don’t know how fast the car will go and probably never will,” Patrick said in his website. “The car was built to thrill me, not kill me. That doesn’t stop me from the occasional blast on the highway though.”
