172.6-Carat Diamond

The Lucapa Diamond Company Ltd. has unearthed another diamond this week. This Perth-based mining company recently announced that a 172.6 carat diamond was found at its Lulo mine in Angola. The diamond is a D-color, Type IIa stone.

It seems like the company is having a good year as it also unearthed other diamonds in the past: the 104-carat stone unearthed last September 21 and the 38.6-carat pink diamond recovered earlier this month. The company also recovered what is believed to be the largest diamond ever unearthed in Angola. It’s the 404.2 carat stone.

Throughout the Lulo diamond project, the company was able to recover six diamonds that are over 100 carats. This is considered the world’s fourth largest diamond mine.
