There’s Now a Supplement That Removes Our Dreadful Hangover
There is already an alcohol called alcosynth that is said to be hangover free. It was designed to mimic the positive effects of alcohol, but removes the next-day consequences like headache, dry mouth, and nausea.
But since that booze is most likely not to suit the taste of all alcohol drinkers, something needs to be done with the hangover itself without changing the people’s alcohol preferences. Like developing a supplement that cures hangovers.
That’s what US seniors Liam McClintock and Margaret Morse from Yale University did exactly.
Both teamed up with professors, nutritionists, and a pharma manufacturer to produce what they say as the anti-hangover formula called SunUp. It is a powdered product that is said to “prime your body for alcohol consumption”.

Being the first “hangover cure” supplement, it has a distinct composition, 15 ingredients to exact which includes sodium, vitamin C, vitamin B12, zinc, and potassium.
All nutrients are believed to have a hangover-preventing effect – they either speed up how quickly our body clears out alcohol or protect against alcohol toxicity. SunUp is ingested with a glass of water before going out and drink some booze.
In their crowdfunding page, the duo explained further how SunUp changes our hangovers. It is summed up into four: SunUp helps increase enzymes in the liver the break acetaldehyde, a toxic byproduct of alcohol, into less harmful molecules; it works to suppress the overdrive of the immune system and the overall feeling of malaise after alcohol consumption; it contains ingredients that balance our glutamine levels, which is critical in carrying out our biological functions; and it primes the body with essential nutrients to combat alcohol toxicity.
McClintock and Morse wants to change the underrated statistics about hangovers: according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, they cost over $200 billion in the U.S. That’s about $1.37 for each drink consumed by Americans.
