As a kid, you might’ve possible caught a glimpse of the old Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus being driven by the older folks around your neighborhood. The days of the Type 2 Microbus roaming around the streets didn’t really end as the vehicle is still in production till today. Thing is, even the newer releases are just a shadow of the once glorious minibus. The newly created vehicles still look and feel like the old model, so there really isn’t anything “new” about it. That’s why Volkswagen decided to listen to the demands of its customers and has decided to relaunch the Volkswagen Bus in 2022.

Gone are the old, cheeky, bug-like headlights and in with the sleek, modern, savvy beams. The headlights also include hexagonal-shaped “eyes” which tells you what your vehicle sees and its current status. Its slim design also mimics the original model’s nearly-zero overhangs. Volkswagen claims to produce a car that will be fully-electric that will be comparable to the modern electric cars today. Their design, the I.D. Buzz aims to preserve the ideal traits of the Type 2 while not being a complete copycat.

The concept sports a 369 horsepower electric motor engine connected to a 111 kWh battery that’s estimated to give around 300 miles per charge. That’s more than 10 times more horsepower than what the old VW Microbus had (Around 30hp for all models til present). While it’s still a long way before production and sales start, fans are now rejoicing at the comeback of one of the most iconic vehicles of the past century. For die-hard Volkswagen enthusiasts, 2022 is not that long of a wait. The new I.D. Buzz is expected to make a debut in the United States, Europe, and China. Any release on other countries have not yet been disclosed.
