Many aerospace manufacturers have wanted to build a new supersonic airliner ever since the Concorde flight in 2003. The supersonic goal is to be able to travel from New York to London in just 3 to 4 hours.
Boom Technology, a small aerospace company may be able to reach this. The company, with funding from Virgin Galactic, comprises of aviation and propulsion experts from NASA, Lockheed Martin, Pratt and Whitney, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman subsidiary Scaled Composites.
Recently, they redesigned the plans for their Mach 2.2 supersonic airliner. They stretched the aircraft to around 155 feet so it could accommodate 50 passengers instead of 40. The wingspan of the delta wing was increased as well.

Aerion, an American aircraft manufacturer based in Reno, Nevada also have plans of their own. They plan to launch the certification program for its Mach 1.4 AS2 supersonic trijet by the end of 2017, and then conduct their first flight in 2021, then enter the service by 2012. Airbus is supporting this project.

NASA is also working on building a new supersonic aircraft—an X-plane that’s called the Quiet Supersonic Technology (QueSST) demonstrator. It will be used to test new aerodynamic designs to lessen the noise of a sonic boom. The X-plane will also be testing new engines that are capable of supersonic propulsion which are quiet enough to follow FAA airport noise regulations
