Google Translate English to Tagalog Can’t Convert Engineering Terms

Google Translate is great for basic translations, but it can't always convert engineering terms

Why Google Translate English to Tagalog is a disaster?

Google Translate is an excellent tool for translating simple words or phrases, but when it comes to translating technical engineering terms, it often falls short.

I attempted to translate 20 engineering courses from English to Tagalog, and Google Translate was only able to translate five of them, which is not even close to the correct translation.

This is because Google Translate is unable to convert engineering terms from one language to another properly.

But why is that? Is it because the Filipino language is a dying language, or is it because the machine learning of Google does not work properly?

Is Google Translate Not Filipino Friendly?

The low turn out of Google to translate engineering terms isn’t really a surprise, as translating engineering terms is often difficult, even for professional translators. Another bad news is that there are only a few online resources available for translating engineering terms available out there.

If you need to translate a technical term and Google Translate doesn’t provide an accurate translation, what can Filipino scholars and educators do?

There are many factors that affect Google Translate English to Tagalog. Here are the possible causes:

Grammar Structure: Google Translate English to Tagalog Challenge

Google Translate is an excellent tool for quickly translating words and phrases between languages, but it is not perfect. One reason why Google Translate English to Tagalog is a failure is that the two languages have different grammar structures and word order.

For example, the Tagalog word “ako” means “I,” while the English word “I” means “me.” Additionally, the Tagalog word “sa” means “in” or “at,” while the English word “in” or “at” does not exist in Tagalog. These differences make it difficult for Google Translate to translate sentences from English to Tagalog and vice versa accurately.

No Pinoy Equivalent to English: Google Translate English to Tagalog

Another reason why Google Translate English to Tagalog is a failure is that many Tagalog words have no direct English equivalent, so it can be challenging to find the correct translation.

Google Translate English to Tagalog can be difficult because many Tagalog words do not have a direct English equivalent.

For example, the English words “mechatronics” and “metallurgical” does not have an exact Filipino translation.

The best approximation for “mechatronics” might be “makina at elektronikong teknolohiya,” but even this is not a perfect fit. This can make it difficult for people who are learning Tagalog to communicate with others who speak the language.

Machine Learning: Google Translate English to Tagalog

Another reason why Google Translate English to Tagalog is a failure is that Google Translate relies on machine learning, which means that it gradually learns from examples and gets better over time.

However, Tagalog is a relatively obscure language, and there are not many existing examples to learn from, so while it learns the basics well, it can sometimes struggle with more advanced technical words.

This means the machine learning algorithm cannot accurately predict the translation for most sentences.

In conclusion, Google Translate English to Tagalog cannot be relied on to convert engineering terms accurately. While it may be a useful tool for translating common words and phrases, more complex translations require a more specialized tool. For engineering terms, it is best to use a dictionary or online translator that is specifically designed for that purpose.
