9 Reasons Cars Are Better Than Ever Before

No one’s going to pretend that the modern world is perfect. But we should also pause to remember that there are many areas of life that are much better than in the olden days. Take, for example, cars. Now, there are a lot of classic vehicles from days gone by that were big on style and performance. We’re not saying that cars weren’t good in the past; they definitely could be! But in terms of general standards, they don’t have a patch on cars today. In this blog, we’re going to run through nine reasons why cars are better than they’ve ever been.

They Last Longer

It seems crazy to think about now, but when mass-produced cars were first taking off, there was the idea that people would buy a new car every single year or every 2-3 years. While some people would like the idea of changing their vehicle so often, the truth is that it’s a pretty big waste of resources and money. Today, cars are made to last. You can realistically expect to have your vehicle for at least eight years before you have to replace it — and even then, you wouldn’t have to replace it; it would just be because you wanted to upgrade to have a vehicle that’s in line with modern standards.

They’re Much Safer

This can not be understated. By modern standards, old vehicles were essentially death traps! There’s been a lot of developments in recent years in the automobile world, but none have been as substantial as the improved safety credentials of cars. Did you know that you’re less than half as likely to die in a car today than you were in 1980? That’s a significant improvement. Even entry-level cars come with a wide range of safety features that make driving safer than ever before.

They Have More Entertainment

Yes, it can be fun to just go out for a drive and enjoy the process of driving. However, there are also times when you’re not driving for pleasure but just to get somewhere. In that scenario, you should be thankful that modern cars come stacked with entertainment features that allow you to enjoy the process of driving all the more. You might hate sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic, but let’s be honest — it would be much worse if you didn’t have music or podcasts to entertain you while you were sitting there.

There Are A Lot Of Options

Choice allows for more freedom. Today, there are 42 different brands of vehicles that you can buy in the United States. That means that whatever you’re looking for, you’ll certainly find what you’re looking for. And of course, that’s only the number of brands; once you get into the number of models available, you’ll find that there are hundreds of options available. If you’re looking for a city car, you’ll find it. If you want something that’s good for young families, you’ll find it. And so on and so on. That’s not something that would have been the case many years ago!

Consumers Have Choice

There’s also a lot of choice when it comes to vehicles, too. For example, tires. It used to be that you’d just have to use whatever tires were provided by the manufacturer of the vehicle. But that’s not the case today. There’s an element of choice. Drivers can spend some time finding the best tires for their needs rather than having to settle for whatever was made available to them. This is a subtle but powerful shift, one that allows drivers to have greater control over their driving experience.

The Miles Per Gallon Is Going Up

Yes, the cost of gas is going up, and that’s not good — however, the flip side is that the miles per gallon rate are going up. That means that you can go further on the same amount of gas than you could have in the past. Of course, this isn’t true across the board. There are some vehicles, such as hummers, that have an awful MPG rate. But if you’re looking for cars that’ll take you further for less, you’ll have no problem finding one.

You Can Drive Any Of Them

Another element that is often overlooked by people: you can drive any car within reason. This is because how cars function has been standardized. This wasn’t always the case! And it has positive implications on the driving experience. For one thing, it allows people to rent cars, use their friend’s vehicles, and generally gives them the freedom to change cars without having to learn how to drive them. Of course, there are still variations in the driving experience, but broadly, you can put someone who has experience of driving in any other car, and they’ll have no problem getting the car moving.

Customized Options

It’s also possible today to customize your vehicle in a way that wouldn’t have been possible in days gone by. There are plenty of aftermarket parts that people can buy to modify their vehicle in one way or another. They do this to boost performance, enhance entertainment, or simply to personalize the vehicle (in the case of adding wrapping). In the modern climate, it’s more than possible to create a vehicle very much in your own image.

There’s Constant Innovation

Finally, let’s remember that there is always innovation in the automobile world. It doesn’t stay for too long. And now, with so many car companies trying to stay competitive, there’s near-constant innovation, without the prices of cars becoming unbearable. It’s this outlook that is the reason why cars continue to get better, even when there’s no logical reason to. The rise of Tesla has forced many car companies to invest in electric vehicles, which brings down the cost and improves the technology.

Conclusion

There are annoying elements to being a driver today, including the cost of running the vehicle and the number of other cars on the road. However, there’s no denying that we might be living in a golden age of cars that helps us to enjoy driving more.
